Noumea Hotels and Restaurants

New Caledonia offers hotels from one-to-five stars.  Outside of Noumea and the Isle of Pines, it’s difficult to find the upper category resorts – you’re more likely to find an excellent room in a not-as-nice resort than an ok room in a fabulous place.

In Noumea, there are three truly excellent hotels – the Le Meridien, on Anse Vata (the popular tourist beach), the Ramada Plaza, with two tall towers that seem to overlook the entire country and the bay, and the newly opened Best Western, which features self-catering apartments with a 4-star quality.

As one would expect, the dining at all of the hotels is excellent.  Le Meridien offers a gastronomic restaurant, l’ Hippocampe, along with beachside and buffet dining.  The Ramada Plaza has laid back pool side eating on the ground floor and 360 degrees, the revolving restaurant, on the top floor.  Finally, the Best Western is also home to its own open-walled restaurant.  Not unsurprisingly, each restaurant specializes in fish and seafood dishes, drawing on the bountiful offerings that surround them.
